Santhosh Kumar, a member of parliament, initiated the Green India Challenge, which aims to increase Telangana’s green cover. The challenge began in 2018 and has since taken its course. The challenge started with him nominating celebrities to take up the planting initiative and plant three saplings, then selecting others to do the same, creating an empowering movement.

The challenge’s root cause, Haritha Haram, is still widely acknowledged. This challenge not only altered everyone’s way of life but also inspired people to take better care of their surroundings. The Green India Initiative has paved the way to foster well-being and ensure a healthy environment for the next generation. On July 17, 2023, it will celebrate five years of successful change and impact.

The challenge, which began in Telangana and has since spread to 10 states, is the result of MP Santhosh Kumar’s hard work. Green India is widespread, with more than a million saplings planted and protected. Involving older generations in the initiative has changed the students’ perspectives on environmental awareness in addition to teaching them about environmental protection.

After celebrities on social media endorsed their campaign for climate sustainability, Green India started to draw everyone in. From the parliament to the villages to the cities today, the Green India Challenge has positively changed climate sustainability conditions everywhere. By urging people there to promote and plant saplings on special occasions, it has successfully expanded its influence on a global scale.

The initiative helped people discover their love of nature. Santhosh Kumar, a remarkable movement leader, introduced the adoption of urban forest adaptation. He was the first to adopt the Kesara Forest, and actor Prabhas followed in his footsteps by adopting the Kalsipally Reserve Forest to raise environmental awareness.

On the occasion of his birthday in 2021, Adhilabad MLA Jogi Rammana planted three lakh fifty thousand saplings in an hour, sparking the idea to break the Limca Book of World Records. Around 20,000 district residents actively contributed to breaking the record, which was made possible. With this achievement, the amount of greenery in Telangana increased by 34%.

Santhosh Kumar, a member of parliament, was honored with the “Vriksha Mitra Award” for his commitment to environmental change and protection. Eric Solemen, executive director of the United States Director of Environment Wing, and Kalpataru Samsthan, which has also taken the initiative to plant three lakh saplings in Rajasthan, presented this honor. With his inspiration, CM KCR has also recently adopted 1094 acres of land at Kondagutta.

Actors Aamir Khan, Sonu Sood, Prabhas, Samantha, Nagarjuna, and Mohan Babu are examples of celebrities who have backed this initiative and urged other members of the celebrity community to follow suit. We can say with pride that it is not just a movement but rather everyone’s active participation in the battle to save our planet by sowing a single sapling at a time.
