Nagarjuna Sagar Dam Overflows as 22 Gates Opened

Nalgonda: The Nagarjuna Sagar Project in Telangana is seeing heavy inflows of water. Due to this, authorities have opened 22 gates to let the water flow downstream.

The dam is getting 300,995 cusecs of water and releasing the same amount. Out of this, 255,296 cusecs are released through the crest gates, 7,601 cusecs through the left canal, 7,878 cusecs through the right canal, 28,420 cusecs for power generation, and 1,800 cusecs to the AMR project.

Currently, the dam’s water level is 585.30 feet, while its full reservoir level is 590 feet. The water storage stands at 298.30 TMC, with the full capacity being 312.50 TMC.

The heavy water release from Nagarjuna Sagar is filling the downstream Pulichintala project in Suryapet district. At Pulichintala, the water level has reached 142.71 feet, against a full reservoir level of 175 feet.

Pulichintala now holds 10.65 TMC of water out of its total capacity of 45.77 TMC. The inflows at Pulichintala are 74,443 cusecs, and it is releasing 25,676 cusecs downstream.
