Nagarjuna Sagar: Legislative Council Chairman, Gutta Sukhender Reddy, emphasized that the teachings of Buddha offer solutions to social problems. He shared his thoughts while serving as the chief guest at the ‘Dhamma Vijaya’ celebrations held at Buddhavanam in Nandikonda Municipality on Monday.
The ‘Dhamma Vijaya’ event took place on October 14, marking the day when Emperor Ashoka adopted Buddhism, and Dr. BR Ambedkar embraced the Buddhist faith.
Reddy highlighted that in today’s world, which is filled with selfishness and greed, following Buddha’s five moral precepts (Panchasheel) could help prevent wars. He also mentioned that Buddhavanam is set to become a major tourist destination in the near future.
He added that the Dhamma Vijaya and Dhamma Diksha celebrations will not only boost tourism but also increase awareness about Buddhism, especially for the younger generation.
MLC Mankena Koti Reddy also spoke at the event. He discussed how Buddhism flourished in Nagarjuna Konda during the Ikshvaku period and expressed hope that Buddhavanam will evolve into an international Buddhist tourist center in the future.
