Wanaparthy: A case was registered early on Monday morning after the CCS police stepped in to investigate a suspected ration rice scam in Wanaparthy district. Rice millers and dealers are accused of working together to cheat the system.

The scam involves dealers buying back rice that was originally distributed to the public through ration shops. They would then sell this rice to private individuals for a profit. To avoid getting caught, some dealers were transporting the rice to other areas during late-night hours, between 11 pm and 3 am. People are urging higher authorities to take swift action to stop these illegal activities.

In the Killa Ganapuram area, the CCS police caught a rice mill owner involved in transporting ration rice. On Monday, they seized a van at Divya Navya Rice Mill in the Killa Ganapuram mandal centre. The van was being used to illegally transport rice from the Nagarkurnool and Mahbubnagar areas to the mill.

The police had set up surveillance near the rice mill after learning about the illegal activity. They managed to intercept the vehicle at dawn and confiscated both the van and the rice it was carrying. The rice, packed in gunny bags, was being sent from ration shops to the mill. Before the police arrived, there were reports that around 20 quintals of rice had already been stored at the mill.

The police arrested the rice mill owner, seized the vehicle, and detained two other individuals involved in the transportation of the rice. All of them were taken to the Killa Ganapuram police station for further investigation.
