Seven New Navodaya Vidyalayas Sanctioned for Telangana

Khammam: Former MP Nama Nageswara Rao announced on Saturday that the Central government has approved seven new Navodaya Vidyalayas for Telangana. He credited this development to the persistent efforts of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). However, he noted that while the party had pushed for the establishment of 21 schools, only seven were approved.

Nama explained that the issue of setting up Navodaya Vidyalayas in Telangana’s new districts had been raised multiple times in Parliament. After Telangana’s state formation, new districts were created, and the need for additional schools became a significant concern. Nama recalled writing letters to Union Ministers and raising the matter in Parliament to advocate for these schools.

Before the state’s reorganization, only nine districts in Telangana had Navodaya Vidyalayas. Nama highlighted that even back then, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) had requested the Prime Minister to establish schools in the remaining districts.

Nama also pointed out his efforts in 2019 during discussions on the Teaching Staff Reservation Bill. Additionally, he mentioned participating in a protest in March 2022 at the Gandhi statue in Parliament to demand the establishment of more schools.

The former MP stressed that the new Navodaya Vidyalayas in districts like Kothagudem, Adilabad, and Nirmal would play a key role in improving education in these areas, especially for tribal populations. He emphasized that the schools would provide quality education to children in rural and tribal communities, including those whose parents work in sectors like Singareni and the National Mineral Development Corporation.

With the addition of these seven schools, Telangana now has a total of 16 Navodaya Vidyalayas. Nama expressed hope that these institutions would nurture talent and uplift educational standards across the state.
