Hyderabad: Banuka Narmada Mallikarjun has been appointed as the new nominated member of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB). The announcement was made during a board meeting held on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the newly nominated member took the oath of office. Following this, various public issues within the board’s jurisdiction were discussed.

One of the key decisions made in the meeting was regarding borewell meter bills. It was decided that these bills should be handed over to the state government, and approval for this would be sought from the authorities.

Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Sri Ganesh raised concerns about the poor condition of roads, lack of drinking water facilities, insufficient borewells, and the absence of toilets in areas like 108 Bazaar and Chinna Kamela.

The MLA stated that these issues could be resolved if funds from the MLA budget were allocated. However, the state government has not approved using funds for projects on central government-owned land. He urged that the cantonment funds be used for these essential works, emphasizing the immediate need to build toilets to ensure better living conditions, especially for women.

Meanwhile, members of the Rajiv Rahadari Property Owners’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) submitted a request to the SCB officials. They demanded that the upcoming elevated corridor project be widened to 100 feet. Additionally, they requested clarity on the project and fair compensation in the form of equivalent-value land for those whose properties are being acquired.
