Open drains filled with plastic waste are a common problem in Nizampet. The recent heavy rain has only made things worse. Despite repeated complaints, the local authorities have not taken any permanent action to cover these open drains. Residents are worried that this situation could lead to health hazards and even fatal accidents.

Locals have noticed that the sanitation workers have only partially cleared the silt from the drains, leaving the rest floating in the water. Even though officials were instructed to cover the drains before the monsoon, most of the drains in Nizampet remain open and neglected. There have been cases in the past where people have slipped into these open drains.

Residents like Sai Teja are frustrated with the lack of action from officials. They have been complaining for a long time, but all they get is a temporary solution of removing trash from the drains. Once it rains, the problem returns. They are demanding a permanent solution to this issue.

Despite instructions from the principal secretary of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development department to cover all drains before the monsoon, no action has been taken. This negligence is putting the safety of residents at risk, as pointed out by local resident Mohan Reddy.
