Hyderabad: NMDC, India’s largest iron ore producer and a Navratna mining company, celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm. The national flag was hoisted at the company’s headquarters in Hyderabad and at all its project sites on Thursday.
Amitava Mukherjee, who holds the additional charge as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NMDC, led the flag hoisting ceremony at the NMDC Corporate Office in Hyderabad. He was joined by Vinay Kumar, Director of Technical and Personnel (additional charge), B Vishwanath, Chief Vigilance Officer, Zailabuddin, the senior-most employee at the head office, along with other senior officials and employees.
In his address, Mukherjee expressed the honor NMDC feels in serving the nation’s infrastructural needs, symbolizing their ongoing commitment to India’s progress. He highlighted NMDC’s achievement of becoming the first mining company in India to surpass the 45 million-tonne production mark. Mukherjee also shared the company’s ambitious plans to double its production from 50 million tonnes to 100 million tonnes within the next five years, a feat they achieved over the past six decades.
Mukherjee proudly mentioned NMDC’s strong financial performance in the first quarter of the year and the significant accomplishments at the NMDC Steel Plant, which produced 1 million tonnes of liquid steel and 1.5 million tonnes of hot metal. He emphasized NMDC’s dedication to responsible mining and sustainability.
In addition to the Independence Day celebrations, the winners of the third edition of the NMDC-Hindu chess tournament, which was held on August 11 at the State Art Gallery in Hyderabad, were honored by the CMD.
Approximately 600 students from 110 schools participated in the chess event. The CMD, Technical Director, Chief Vigilance Officer, President, and office bearers of the Mineral Eves’ Club in Hyderabad also felicitated the winners of internal games organized for employees and associates.
