The State government in Hyderabad is taking precautions to prevent problems during the rainy season. M Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, inspected locations in Khairatabad where sumps are planned to prevent water stagnation during monsoons.

The Hyderabad Water Board will construct sumps with a capacity of 10 lakh litres in 11 areas within Khairatabad and Jubilee Hill circles at a cost of Rs 20 crore. A total of 140 areas with a capacity of 10 lakh litres each have been prepared for construction.

During his inspections, M Dana Kishore announced the government’s plan to build embankments in 140 waterlogging prone areas in Khairatabad. This will help minimize inconvenience to city residents. He instructed the Zonal Commissioners of GHMC to identify suitable locations for these embankments and work with the SE for further action.

To address water stagnation issues during monsoons, sumps will be constructed in low-lying areas to collect rainwater. The collected water will then be pumped into nearby canals. The proposed locations for sumps include near Lake View Guest House, KCP Junction Mercure Hotel, Khairatabad RTA Office, Dwarka Hotel, Lucky Hotel, Khairatabad Railway Gate, Khairatabad Petrol Pump, Joyalukkas, and Ameerpet-Image Hospital according to a senior officer from the Water Board.
