Hyderabad relies heavily on Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar for its drinking water. On Thursday evening, these reservoirs continued to release water carefully due to ongoing inflows. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply is managing the gates to ensure safety and control the water flow.

The water level at Osman Sagar reached 1,789.15 feet, nearly at its full capacity of 1,790 feet. The reservoir holds 3.705 TMC of water out of a total capacity of 3.900 TMC. About 900 cusecs of water are flowing in, while 2,704 cusecs are released through eight gates, each raised by three feet. This controlled discharge helps balance the water levels, maintaining safe operation.

Himayat Sagar also showed a rise in water levels, reaching 1,762.65 feet, close to its full capacity of 1,763.50 feet. The current storage is 2.725 TMC, nearing its limit of 2.970 TMC. With inflows of 600 cusecs, 2,300 cusecs of water are released through three gates—two opened at three feet and one at one foot. These reservoirs, over 100 years old, are vital for providing drinking water to the city.

Steady rainfall in the catchment areas ensures continuous inflows. The authorities remain vigilant, adjusting gate operations to prevent downstream flooding while preserving enough water for the future.
