The Kadem project in Hyderabad is facing danger due to heavy rains and flooding from the upper reaches. The project’s capacity has been exceeded, so authorities are opening the gates to release water. Out of the project’s 18 gates, four are broken.

The overflowing water from the Kadem project has caused concern for the surrounding areas. The inflow capacity of the project is supposed to be around 3.5 lakh cusecs, but it has been receiving double that amount at 6.04 lakh cusecs. This has led to flooding in downstream areas.

Efforts are being made to repair the broken gates with the help of experts. In the meantime, 2.19 lakh cusecs of flood water has been released into the Godavari river by opening all 14 functioning gates. People in lower areas are being evacuated to ensure their safety.

Minister Indrakaran Reddy and MLA Rekha Naik visited the Kadem project to assess the situation. However, they had to turn back when officials warned them about the dangerous condition of the project.
