The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, is in Imphal until June 1st to hold security meetings and assess the continued violence in different parts of Manipur. Shah is accompanied by Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and other senior officials. The purpose of his visit is to plan further steps to restore normalcy. Shah may bring warring Meiteis and Kukis together to discuss ways to resolve the situation and assure both communities of safety. The Kukis are already in talks with the government for a peace deal. They have been demanding some autonomy in their areas which will be considered.

There have been multiple cases of firing, vandalism, and arson being reported from various places, with at least two deaths, including that of a policeman, reported since Sunday. The state government led by N Biren Singh has claimed to have carried out operations against Kuki militant groups allegedly involved in fomenting violence. Singh said that around 40 Kuki militants have been killed so far by security forces.
