Plea against remarks on judiciary by Dhankhar and Rijiju dismissed by SC

The Supreme Court rejected a request from the Bombay Lawyers’ Association to take action against Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju. They were accused of making comments about the Collegium and the Basic Structure Doctrine that were inappropriate. The Supreme Court upheld the decision made by the Bombay High Court in February. The High Court had dismissed the PIL, stating that the credibility of the Supreme Court should not be impacted by the comments made by individuals.

The PIL had asked for directions to prevent Dhankhar and Rijiju from fulfilling their roles until the plea was heard. It also requested that they stop making insulting comments about the Constitution of India and the judiciary. The High Court said that PILs should be used to address public wrongs and injuries, not for gaining publicity.
