Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu, who turned 75, has had an inspiring life journey, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The PM praised Naidu’s oratory skills, wit, alertness, and spontaneity. He also highlighted Naidu’s role in passing the bill to abolish Article 370 while serving as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
Naidu’s journey from a farmer’s son to high-ranking positions in government has been filled with valuable experiences, Modi noted. Despite being a senior party member, Naidu chose to serve as the Rural Development Minister under Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Cabinet to help villages, farmers, and the poor. As the Urban Development Minister, Naidu initiated programs like Swachh Bharat Mission and Smart Cities Mission.
Modi praised Naidu for his bravery during the emergency period 50 years ago when he was imprisoned for about 17 months. He commended Naidu for his dedication to the nation and fighting against injustice. The PM also lauded Naidu’s speaking style in the Rajya Sabha, describing it as deep, serious, visionary, and wise.
Looking towards the future, Modi expressed confidence that Naidu would celebrate his centennial milestone in 2047 when India celebrates its “century of freedom.” In response, Naidu appreciated Modi’s efforts for the country’s development. He emphasized the importance of skill development alongside welfare initiatives and advocated for promoting Indian languages.
Overall, Modi and Naidu both praised each other’s contributions to the nation and expressed optimism for the future.
