Police Warn About Christmas Cyber Fraud: Stay Alert!

As the Christmas season approaches, scammers are finding new ways to target people through festive greetings and offers. Police are warning the public about cybercriminals sending fraudulent messages with greetings like “Merry Christmas” or “You are our dear customer, this gift is for you.”

These messages, often shared in WhatsApp groups, may include links promising “Christmas gifts.” Authorities strongly advise people not to click on these links. Doing so could install harmful software (malware) on your phone, which may steal your personal data and lead to financial loss.

Another scam involves fake Christmas cake offers. Cybercriminals are sharing tempting deals like “Buy one, get one free” or “Order two cakes, get three free.” Police caution that these offers are designed to trick people into falling for fraud.

Similarly, fake shopping websites are circulating with discounts on Christmas dresses, claiming reductions of up to 70%-80%. Shopping on these fake links not only risks your money but can also expose your sensitive personal information to scammers.

If you become a victim of these scams, police urge you to act quickly. Call 1930 to report the fraud and file a complaint immediately. Stay cautious and avoid falling for these festive traps!
