Hyderabad: The Begumpet police have successfully tracked down a notorious criminal involved in a series of bike thefts. They arrested three individuals and recovered 59 stolen bikes worth Rs 42 lakh from their possession.
The arrested individuals are Rayudu Chaitanya Sai Kumar, a 33-year-old habitual bike thief, along with two receivers, Mahdyanapu Jagadeesh (28) and Kunchala Hari Krishna (25).
According to the police, the investigation began after a bike theft was reported in Begumpet. By reviewing CCTV footage and gathering credible information, the police were able to locate Sai Kumar and Jagadeesh. They were caught at the Ghatkesar railway station while Sai Kumar was handing over 12 stolen bikes to Jagadeesh.
Upon further questioning, Sai Kumar admitted that he had stored seven more stolen bikes at the Ghatkesar bus stand, which were meant to be handed over to Krishna. The police then seized these bikes and arrested Krishna. Additionally, they recovered around 39 more stolen bikes from the JBS area and railway station areas.
The police explained that Sai Kumar mainly targeted motorcycles parked at metro stations in areas such as Paradise, Uppal, L B Nagar, Kukatpally, Miyapur, Bala Nagar, and Nagole. After stealing the vehicles, he would sell them through intermediaries by creating fake registration certificates (RCs) online.
The Hyderabad city police have urged the public to take precautions, such as using double locking systems and fuel locks on their bikes. They also advised people to avoid parking in unsecured areas for extended periods and to prefer parking only in authorized areas with CCTV surveillance.
