Gadwal: Today, officials carried out a joint operation in Keshavaram village, Ieeja Mandal, targeting illegal seed sales. They seized a large amount of fake cotton seeds being sold unlawfully.
A man named Telugu Venkatesh was caught selling unbranded cotton seeds, which is against agricultural regulations. Following a tip-off, police and agriculture officials conducted a surprise raid.
During the raid, they found approximately three quintals (300 kilograms) of loose cotton seeds. The market value of these seeds is about Rs. 1,80,000. The seeds lacked proper labeling and certification, threatening farmers’ incomes and crop success.
The seized seeds are now with the Ieeja Police Station. Officials suggest taking strict legal measures as per the law. This effort is part of a wider campaign to stop counterfeit seed sales in Jogulamba Gadwal district before the Kharif season.
Agriculture officials advise farmers to buy seeds only from certified dealers to avoid losses and ensure a good harvest. They warn that strict actions will continue against those selling fake seeds in the district.
Farmers and citizens are encouraged to report any information about counterfeit seeds to local agriculture officers or police stations.
