Police teams target offenders during two festivals

Hyderabad: During the recent Bonalu and Muharram celebrations, SHE Teams in Hyderabad stepped up their actions against harassment. They caught 478 people, including 386 adults and 92 minors, for different offenses. Out of these, 288 were let off with warnings, and four faced minor charges, leading to a total fine of Rs 1,050. In five cases, offenders were convicted, with one person jailed and fined, while four others paid Rs 50 each. Also, eight First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed in several Hyderabad police stations.

The SHE Teams launched a strong public awareness campaign. They held 124 educational programs, made 1,405 observations in public areas, and used 352 audio-visual vehicles to spread messages. These activities focused on women’s safety and understanding harassment laws.

During the big festivals at Golconda Bonalu, Balkampet Yellamma Temple, and Secunderabad Ujjaini Mahankali Temple, SHE Teams were especially vigilant. They caught several people misbehaving with women attendees. To ensure safety, they increased their presence with 14 special teams working across the city.
