Hyderabad: Political ads for the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election need approval from the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) before being aired or published, stated District Election Officer (DEO) and GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan.
Karnan opened the MCMC and Media Centre at the GHMC Head Office. He announced that after the election schedule release, all ads on TV, local cable, social media, e-papers, radio, and other digital platforms must be approved by the MCMC.
The DEO also mentioned that ads in print media, specifically on the day before and on polling day, require MCMC approval. Political parties, candidates, and their representatives must apply to the MCMC for ad clearance before any campaign release.
In addition, all printed campaign materials like handbills and pamphlets must include the publisher’s and printer’s name and address, following the Model Code of Conduct. Karnan instructed the PRO to provide regular election updates to the media for transparent reporting.
The MCMC is led by DEO RV Karnan as Chairman, with GHMC PRO Mamindla Dasharatham as Member Secretary, and members P Sai Ram, Narsing Rao, Manasa Krishna Kanth, and Bachan Jeet Singh.
Following the Election Commission of India guidelines, the MCMC will oversee ads, paid news, and all election content on various media platforms during the election.
