Hyderabad hosted the start of the Powergrid Southern Region-I Inter Regional Badminton Tournament 2025 on July 24, continuing until July 26 at the K.V.B.R. Indoor Stadium in Yousufguda. This three-day tournament gathers badminton lovers from various POWERGRID regional units across the nation. It aims to promote friendship, good sportsmanship, and a healthy competitive spirit among the employees.
Doman Yadav, the Executive Director of Southern Region-I, spoke at the opening ceremony. He pointed out that badminton is more than a game of speed and skill. It requires focus, calmness under pressure, and strategic thinking. These traits are crucial for achieving success in professional life as well. He urged players to prioritize sportsmanship and personal character over winning, emphasizing that dedication and commitment are shown in every point played.
Shri Arun Kumar, Chief General Manager for HR, also addressed the participants. He compared the challenges of badminton to the work culture at Powergrid. Both require alertness, discipline, and energy, which are vital for achieving excellence.
Competitors from various regions of POWERGRID are participating, including Corporate Centre (CC), Northern Region-I (NR-I), Northern Region-II (NR-II), Northern Region-III (NR-III), Eastern Region-I (ER-I), Eastern Region-II (ER-II), North Eastern Region (NER), Southern Region-I (SR-I), Southern Region-II (SR-II), Western Region-I (WR-I), and Western Region-II (WR-II). Each team has six men and six women, making a total of 132 players. The Badminton Association of Telangana in Hyderabad is managing and organizing the matches.
