Rampant Exploitation of Patients by RMPs in Wanaparthy
Text Size: 100%

The district of Wanaparthy is facing a growing problem with the rise of the medical mafia. In rural areas, Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) are taking advantage of the lack of supervision and exploiting people seeking medical care, even for minor illnesses. These RMPs are luring patients to hospitals and exploiting them by conducting unnecessary tests, selling unnecessary medicines, and operating sketchy examination centers. The quality of medicines in local shops has also decreased, putting patients at risk of receiving substandard treatments.

Hospital owners are allegedly colluding with these practitioners, prescribing unnecessary medications and instilling fear in patients for financial gain. Despite some nominal raids by authorities in the past, the exploitation continues. Additionally, doctors have connections with medical shops, leading to inflated prices for prescribed medicines. RMPs are receiving commissions, dinners, and entertainment for bringing patients to specific hospitals. This collaboration between doctors, medical shops, and hospital owners has given rise to a pervasive medical mafia.
