The Union Health Ministry has issued a fresh advisory for passengers arriving in India from or transiting through Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan following renewed concerns over Ebola outbreaks in the region. The alert comes as a precautionary measure to prevent any potential spread of the deadly virus into the country. Health authorities have directed all international airports to remain vigilant and implement enhanced screening protocols for travellers from these affected nations.
Passengers showing symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, weakness, sore throat, or unexplained bleeding have been instructed to immediately report to airport health officials before proceeding to immigration clearance. The ministry has emphasized that early detection is crucial in preventing the spread of the virus. Airport health desks have been put on high alert to identify and isolate any suspected cases for immediate medical evaluation and necessary quarantine measures.
Health officials have warned that Ebola symptoms can appear within 21 days of arrival in the country. This incubation period makes post-arrival surveillance equally important as airport screening. Travellers who have visited the affected countries are being advised to monitor their health closely and seek immediate medical attention if they develop any symptoms during this period. The ministry has also issued guidelines to healthcare facilities across the country to remain prepared for handling any suspected Ebola cases.
The advisory has been issued to all state health departments, airports, and seaports to strengthen surveillance and screening mechanisms. Medical teams at international entry points have been briefed about the clinical features of Ebola and the protocols to be followed in case of suspected cases. The ministry has assured that adequate isolation facilities and testing capabilities are in place to handle any emergency situation that may arise.
According to official sources, no cases of Ebola have been reported in India so far. The Health Ministry stated that the advisory is purely a preventive measure in line with international health regulations and guidelines issued by the World Health Organization. The government continues to monitor the global Ebola situation closely and has assured citizens that all necessary precautions are being taken to safeguard public health.
