Record number of devotees flock to Medaram Tribal Fair, deities to return to forest sanctuary

The tribal fair in Medaram lasted for four days and drew many devotees who wanted to honor the deities Sammakka and Saralamma. People came to see the idols and take part in the sacred rituals.

By the end of the fair, there were around 1.20 crore devotees who had visited the shrines of Sammakka and Saralamma in Medaram. This included over 60 lakh devotees who came on the previous day, showing how popular and important the event was.

Today, tribal priests will lead Sammakka, Saralamma, Pagiddaraju, and Govindaraja to their temples in a ceremony to conclude the fair. The priests entering the forest with Kumkumabharine represents the end of the event.

During the fair, traditions like Mahajatara starting with Saralamma’s arrival, followed by Sammakka’s ceremonial presentation, added to the spiritual atmosphere. Devotees took part in prayers, rituals, and offerings, creating a vibrant and sacred environment.

The Medaram tribal fair demonstrates the deep cultural heritage and spiritual practices of the devotees, bringing people together to honor the divine entities that are important to them.
