On March 28, 2023, a fire broke out in a residential area in Manila, Philippines, causing smoke to billow into the air. The fire destroyed 40 houses in the densely populated Taytay municipality, located southeast of Manila. Sadly, seven people, including two children, died in the fire on Saturday evening, according to police reports. The victims were caught in the flames as they lived in one house only accessible through a long, narrow alley. The fire left at least 60 families homeless and took around two hours to put out. Investigators suspect faulty wiring inside one of the houses as the possible cause. One person was also injured by falling debris. Taytay’s acting police chief, Joel Custodio, stated that the victims were found hugging each other and were unable to escape the flames.
