Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday claimed that the previous BRS government was involved in a huge scam related to power projects during their 10-year rule.

During a debate on power, the CM said that rules were broken when giving tenders to BHEL. Instead of choosing a super critical power project that uses less coal and produces more power, they chose a sub critical power plant, which is worse for the environment because it creates more ash and less power.

The CM also mentioned that the Bhadradri Thermal Power project was not built at its originally planned location. Because of this change, the project gets flooded whenever there is heavy rain. This mistake led to an investigation involving 16 officials.

The work, which should have been finished in two years, took eight years to complete. The government faced losses of Rs 9,000 crore on a project worth Rs 40,000 crore. Similarly, due to corruption, the Yadadri power project cost Rs 8.64 crore per megawatt of power production, while the Bhadradri project cost Rs 9.73 crore per megawatt. In comparison, NTPC’s cost for one megawatt of power was Rs 7.38 crore.

The CM accused the BRS of initially asking for a probe but now trying to stop it because they feared the truth would come out. He said that during the BRS rule, the opposition’s voice was silenced on this issue. As a TDP member, when he tried to expose them, KCR had ordered marshals to remove him from the assembly.
