State Congress president A Revanth Reddy has called for a thorough investigation into the Kaleshwaram project following the National Dam Safety Authority’s report on the sinking of Medigadda barrage’s piers. He demanded that a committee of technical experts from other states be formed to conduct a comprehensive probe, overseen by a Supreme Court judge. The committee should examine all aspects of the project, from estimates and planning to design and construction. Reddy also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally inspect the Medigadda barrage during his next visit to Telangana.
Reddy criticized Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for alleged corruption in the project, referring to him and his family as “financial terrorists.” He called for their removal from their positions and questioned why no criminal case has been filed against L&T, the construction company responsible for the barrage. Reddy highlighted that KCR’s tenure has been focused on redesigning Congress-proposed projects rather than fulfilling promises made during the statehood movement.
Reddy alleged that the Medigadda barrage within the Kaleshwaram project was not constructed according to the original plans, resulting in sinking and damage. He accused KCR of inflating the estimated cost of the project and claimed that it was not built with adequate quality despite substantial investment. Reddy also mentioned that the National Dam Safety Authority warned of potential damage to the entire project, necessitating complete demolition and reconstruction.
In conclusion, Reddy emphasized the need for a fair investigation into the Kaleshwaram project and criticized KTR and his party for criticizing his and Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Medigadda.
