GMR Airports Introduces AI-Powered Digital Twin Platform at Hyderabad's RGIA

Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) is set to revolutionize its operations and improve passenger experiences with the launch of an AI-powered digital twin platform. GMR Airports introduced this innovative platform on Wednesday, along with the next-generation Airport Predictive Operation Centre (APOC). The APOC integrates airside, landside, and terminal operations using real-time data to enhance decision-making and minimize disruptions, ensuring seamless operations.

The launch event was presided over by Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu. GMR Group Airports Chairman GBS Raju, GMR Airports Chief Innovation Officer SGK Kishore, and GHIAL CEO Pradeep Panicker were also present. The new facility is a significant step in modernizing airport management, creating real-time collaboration among various airport stakeholders. Over time, the digital twin platform will be implemented as the standard operating model across all GMR-operated airports.

SGK Kishore highlighted the benefits of this technology, stating, “Our new AI-enabled digital platform and the APOC set new standards in modernizing operations and elevating passenger satisfaction. By integrating real-time data and advanced analytics, we ensure smooth passenger flow, reduced wait times, and personalized services, shaping the future of air travel with unparalleled efficiency and safety.”

The platform comes with several advanced features. Key highlights include intelligent crowd management, real-time analytics to optimize passenger flow, and enhanced security measures to reduce congestion. It also provides insights into passenger wait times, gate usage, and dwell time, ensuring a smooth and efficient travel experience. For landside operations, the platform helps reduce traffic congestion and improves passenger handling by addressing potential issues early.

The APOC, powered by the digital twin platform, fosters collaboration among various stakeholders such as airlines, ground handlers, and air traffic controllers. This integration promotes cohesive decision-making and situational awareness, enabling proactive responses to operational challenges. The result is improved efficiency, enhanced safety, and a better overall passenger experience.
