In Gopalpet mandal, the sand mafia operates openly, as if they are in control. Locals say that illegal sand mining has been going on for nearly 30 years, with silent approval from authorities. Recently, following orders from the Superintendent of Police (SP), special police teams carried out a surprise raid near the post office in Gopalpet mandal. They seized three tractors loaded with sand and a JCB machine.

However, officials have not revealed who owns these vehicles, how long they have been used for illegal mining, or where the sand was being transported. Strangely, the vehicles did not even have number plates. Meanwhile, illegal sand mining continues in full swing in Janampalli, Budidipadu, and Ayvaripalli villages of Pebbair mandal.
