Residents of Saroornagar and nearby colonies in Hyderabad are worried about the upcoming monsoon season, as they continue to face floods every year. They feel that GHMC officials, corporators and MLAs visit them during floods but do not take any permanent measures to solve the problem. Even the small works that were taken up have not been completed in the past year. The colonies that suffer the most during monsoon are Sharadanagar, Sthala Basti, Venkateshwara Colony, Tirumala Colony, Kodandaramnagar and P&T Colony.

People allege that for a decade, leaders from corporators to MPs have been promising them permanent works to provide relief during monsoon, but nothing has been done. The Strategic Nala Development Plan (SNDP) works have been sanctioned, but they are proceeding very slowly. Whenever there is heavy rain, all the shops are closed as the roads get inundated, vehicles get submerged and there is property loss.

Residents of P&T Colony complain that there are no proper inflow and outflow channels for water to drain out. Even with little rain last week, the nala got filled and water overflowed onto the streets and lanes. They fail to understand why no official or politician takes up this major problem seriously. They urge GHMC and politicians to take action now.
