Hyderabad: In a move to embrace digital technology, South Central Railway (SCR) has started using a biometric system for its Traveling Ticket Examiner (TTE) staff to sign in and out. This effort aims to increase transparency and allow real-time monitoring. The system is now active in six important TTE offices: Secunderabad, Kacheguda, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur, and Nanded. It will be gradually implemented in all 73 TTE lobbies throughout the region.
Previously, TTEs used usernames and passwords to log their work times. The new system uses an Aadhaar-based biometric method with fingerprint recognition connected to the C-DAC portal. This ensures that TTEs are present at their starting and ending stations, recording their work hours accurately.
This change aims to boost accountability, reduce errors in duty records, and improve overall efficiency. The railway can better track staff availability and deployment, especially during busy travel times.
SCR General Manager Shri Sanjay Kumar Srivastava praised the staff for adopting the system, noting that the zone leads in using digital tech. He stated that this biometric system enhances transparency and operational discipline.
This initiative is part of Indian Railways’ effort to modernize through digital transformation. It seeks to streamline processes, minimize manual tasks, and improve service. Once fully implemented, the system will cover all TTE lobbies under SCR, enhancing trust and reliability in passenger services.
