Rinku Singh played a match-winning knock of 48 off 21 deliveries to lead Kolkata Knight Riders to a thrilling 3-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans in the IPL. His 5 consecutive sixes in the last over of the match sent social media into frenzy and prompted KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan to congratulate him on Twitter. This was KKR’s second successful chase of 200+ runs in IPL history, the first being in the 2014 final against Punjab Kings.

Rinku’s feat of hitting 5 consecutive sixes while chasing, in the final over of the innings, is a first in T20 cricket history. Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma also praised Rinku for his incredible knock. Venkatesh Iyer, who scored 83 in the run-chase, said that the victory will be a great morale-booster for the team.

Iyer also spoke about their partnership with Nitish Rana and how they lost their way but never gave up hope until Rinku’s heroics in the final over. This match is a testament to how talent meets opportunity in the IPL.
