Hyderabad: The ongoing phone tapping case in Telangana has reached a critical point. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has sent notices to Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, asking him to appear for questioning on July 24. This investigation focuses on allegations of extensive phone surveillance during the previous BRS government.
SIT officials went to Bandi Sanjay’s home on Thursday to deliver the summons. At the Minister’s request, questioning will take place at the Dilkush Government Guest House in Hyderabad. Notices were also issued to his PRO, Pasunuru Madhu, PA Boinipalli Praveen Rao, and former PA Pogula Tirupati, who will give their statements on the same day.
Bandi Sanjay first raised the phone tapping issue in 2022. He accused the former government of illegally monitoring communications of judges, opposition leaders, celebrities, and even BRS members. He claimed the phone data was used for political revenge, citing his own controversial midnight arrest related to the “tent paper leak” case.
The SIT has already questioned many public figures, including MPs, MLAs, and political leaders. Bandi Sanjay’s inclusion in the inquiry is significant due to his outspoken criticism and activism against the previous administration’s surveillance practices.
Recently, even Bandi Sanjay’s personal driver, Ramesh, was questioned by the SIT. The Minister is expected to bring additional evidence during his session, which could be crucial for the investigation’s outcome.
With numerous claims of illegal tapping, forced protests, and political harassment emerging, the SIT aims to uncover the full scope of the surveillance activities and any power misuse. The case has gained national attention, highlighting the serious implications of privacy breaches.
