Hyderabad has been busy with a new ration card program. From January to July 14, the Civil Supplies Department got 28.27 lakh applications. 19.5 lakh came through the Praja Palana program, and 8.7 lakh were submitted via MeeSeva.
By mid-July, the department had approved 3,69,095 ration cards and rejected 16,391 applications. The Praja Palana program received 19,57,105 requests, while MeeSeva centers handled 8,70,159. Altogether, the applications have gone over 28 lakh.
The State government began handing out new ration cards on July 14. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy inaugurated this at a public meeting in Tungaturthi, Suryapet district. This move aims to expand the Public Distribution System (PDS) to provide food security for more low-income households.
The Chief Minister noted that many families have recently applied for these new cards. Now, Telangana sees an increase in families receiving PDS benefits, rising from 2.8 crore to 3.1 crore. These cards allow families to buy subsidized rice, grains, and other necessities from fair price shops statewide.
Officials assure the distribution will be fair and transparent, ensuring all deserving families get support. New cardholders will receive better-quality rice and more reliable assistance under the updated program. The government also focuses on enhancing delivery and reducing waste.
