    Hyderabad: City police have convicted and jailed 77 people for drunk driving. In total, police caught 1,062 people for driving under the influence of alcohol. During a special weekend drive, Cyberabad police caught 300 offenders.

    Police also found cases of underage drinking and drunk driving. In such cases, traffic police filed cases for drunk driving, and law and order police investigated where the minors had purchased alcohol.

    Police have warned that anyone caught drunk driving and causing a fatal accident will be arrested under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which could result in up to 10 years in prison and a fine.

    In a separate incident, a truck belonging to the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRA) was hit by a car trying to avoid a drunk driving check-post at Kukatpally around midnight on Saturday. The truck was removing illegal hoardings when the car swerved left to escape the police and crashed into the parked truck. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the car’s front was badly damaged.
