Umran Malik, a promising player in IPL 2023, has only played seven games this season, with his last match for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 29 against Delhi Capitals. He was left out of the team’s recent game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, which led to speculation that there may be too many people involved in the selection process at SRH and that it is unclear who is in charge.

During the coin toss against RCB, SRH captain Aiden Markram said he did not know what was happening with Umran behind the scenes, but acknowledged that he has a lot of potential. Former cricketers have raised concerns about how the young pacer is being handled at the franchise.

Former SRH coach Tom Moody believes that Markram may not have much say in the team’s selection process, and that there may be issues between the captain and the coach. For a team to succeed, the captain and coach need to be on the same page, Moody said.
