Hyderabad is addressing the shortage of professors in its medical colleges. The government has approved hiring 714 assistant professors to fill the gap.

The state’s medical colleges faced professor shortages because previous administrations, including the BRS government, started them without proper planning. This led to the National Medical Commission (NMC) questioning health officials. During a meeting, officials explained that the rapid establishment of many colleges caused faculty shortages and facility issues. Despite challenges, they affirmed the government’s commitment to improving medical colleges and hospitals.

Now, job vacancies and faculty promotions are bringing relief. Recently, 44 professors were promoted to Medical Education Directors (DMEs). They received positions as Principals and Superintendents in medical colleges and teaching hospitals. Health Minister C Damodar Raja Narsimha ensured quick issuance of these orders.

The shortage will soon be addressed by promoting Assistant and Associate Professors. The Medical and Health Services Recruitment Board announced 607 Assistant Professor positions, and applications are underway. The Finance Department approved 714 new Assistant Professor posts. The NMC commended the state’s actions to enhance medical education and faculty numbers, ensuring no penalties or seat reductions for government colleges.
