The Telangana Cabinet convened on 17 July 2026 and approved seven significant decisions addressing critical issues ranging from El Niño preparedness to infrastructure development. The government announced comprehensive contingency plans to tackle potential drought conditions, ensuring uninterrupted supply of drinking water, irrigation facilities, and power across the state. The Cabinet has decided to seek Central assistance and request a field assessment team to evaluate the situation on the ground and prepare mitigation strategies.
In a major administrative move, the Cabinet approved the formation of a Special Enquiry Team to investigate irregularities in the Dharani land portal. The probe will examine suspicious land transactions, unauthorized alterations in land records, illegal transfers of government and assigned lands, flaws in portal design, vendor selection processes, and data-security lapses. This decision comes amid growing complaints from citizens about discrepancies in land records following the implementation of the digital land management system.
The state government has constituted a high-level committee headed by the Chief Secretary to establish a unified framework for managing engineering projects across Telangana. The committee will develop standardized procedures covering project appraisal, land acquisition processes, tendering mechanisms, contract management protocols, and bill payment systems. This initiative aims to bring transparency and efficiency to infrastructure development and eliminate delays in project execution.
In a progressive step towards inclusivity, the Cabinet granted approval to amend the Telangana Municipalities Act, 2019, enabling transgender persons to be nominated as co-opted members in municipal corporations. Additionally, amendments to the Panchayat Raj Act were approved, allowing Gram Panchayats to deposit their funds in nearby nationalised banks, cooperative banks, or post offices, providing greater financial flexibility to local bodies.
The Cabinet reviewed proposals for high-speed rail connectivity linking Hyderabad with three major metropolitan cities. The government examined the feasibility of the Hyderabad–Mumbai, Hyderabad–Bengaluru, and Hyderabad–Chennai corridors and decided to establish a dedicated rail hub near Shamshabad to serve as a central node for these high-speed rail networks. This infrastructure development is expected to significantly reduce travel time and boost economic connectivity.
The Cabinet also approved the completion of the Mukteshwar Lift Irrigation Scheme, which will lift 4.50 TMC of Godavari water to provide irrigation facilities to 45,000 acres of agricultural land in the Manthani constituency. The project is designed to address water scarcity in the region and enhance agricultural productivity for thousands of farming families dependent on irrigation for their livelihoods.
