The Government of Telangana has officially declared September 25, 2026 (Friday) as a public holiday for government offices, schools, and colleges in the twin cities of Hyderabad-Secunderabad and the adjoining districts of Ranga Reddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri. The holiday has been announced in view of the Ganesh idol immersion procession, which traditionally draws large crowds and causes significant disruption to normal activities in these areas. The order was issued through G.O.Rt.No.1396 dated September 23, 2026, by the General Administration (SPL.E) Department in partial modification of earlier orders.
To compensate for the declared holiday, the government has mandated that November 14, 2026 (Second Saturday) will be observed as a working day for all government offices, schools, and colleges in the same regions. This arrangement ensures that the total number of working days remains unchanged while accommodating the religious and cultural significance of the Ganesh immersion festivities. The notification applies specifically to institutions located in and around the twin cities and the two adjoining districts.
The order was signed by Sanjay Jaju, Chief Secretary to Government, by order and in the name of the Governor of Telangana. The Commissioner of Printing and Stationary has been directed to publish the notification in an extraordinary issue of the Telangana State Gazette. The Commissioner of Information and Public Relations has been requested to give wide publicity to this announcement through media channels. Copies of the order have been forwarded to all departments of the secretariat, heads of departments, collectors and district magistrates of the affected districts, and various other government offices including the High Court of Telangana and the Telangana Public Service Commission.
