The Telangana State Transport department has begun registering new motor vehicles with a new ‘TG’ code instead of the previous ‘TS’ prefix. The officials have started issuing registration numbers for vehicles.

Transport Commissioner Dr Jyoti Buddha Prakash launched the TG series at Khairatabad RTA office. The first number, TS 09 0001, was issued in the central zone of Hyderabad. Vehicle-owner Rudraraju Rajeev Kumar was happy to receive this number through auction.

On March 12, the Centre allowed the State government to use the TG code for vehicle registrations. The registration of new vehicles has started in various districts, with many people awaiting registration since March 12.

Unique number series have been allotted to different districts for vehicle registration. Hyderabad will have six different series based on zones, while other districts will have one or two series each. The total number of vehicles in the State is 1,63,51,155, with 70,68,252 registered under AP series and 92,82,903 under TS series.
