Telangana has recorded a cumulative rainfall of 536.5 mm against the normal of 664.5 mm from June 1 to September 16, 2026, resulting in a 19 percent deficit. The state capital Hyderabad has received 429.4 mm of rainfall compared to the normal 540.6 mm, showing a 21 percent deficit during the same monsoon period.
The recent spell of rains between September 12 and 14 has helped improve the deficit situation across the state. Before these rains, Telangana was facing a 25 percent deficit, which has now reduced to 19 percent. Similarly, Hyderabad’s deficit improved from 28 percent to 21 percent following the rainfall activity during this period.
For September 16, 2026, hot and humid conditions are expected to dominate across Telangana, with temperatures reaching 37-39 degrees Celsius in southern and eastern parts of the state. Other areas are likely to record temperatures between 35-37 degrees Celsius, while Hyderabad will experience temperatures ranging from 33-36 degrees Celsius. Isolated thunderstorms are possible in some areas, particularly in Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Peddapalli, Nalgonda and Suryapet districts during afternoon to evening hours.
Meteorological forecasts indicate that rainfall activity is expected to increase from September 17, 2026, with more widespread and stronger thunderstorms likely to develop across various parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad. A powerful spell of thunderstorms is anticipated between September 17 and 25, which could further improve the deficit situation in the state.
Weather experts project that Telangana could receive 600-640 mm of rainfall by the end of September, while Hyderabad may record 530-560 mm during the same period. This would bring the final monsoon deficit to between 14 to 18 percent for the state, which falls under the normal status category as per meteorological department classifications.
