The Telangana government has issued a notification changing the name of Raj Bhavan to Lok Bhavan. This decision follows the central government’s recommendation to rename all Raj Bhavans to Lok Bhavans. The state government issued orders in line with this directive.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had previously sent a letter to governors and lieutenant governors, advising them to consider renaming Raj Bhavans and Raj Niwas as part of an effort to eliminate colonial associations. In response, states like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Assam, Kerala, Tripura, and Odisha have already changed the names of their Raj Bhavans to Lok Bhavans. Now, Telangana joins this list.
