Hyderabad: On Tuesday, February 17, M Dana Kishore, the Telangana Labour Commissioner, announced that shops in Telangana can stay open until 5 am throughout Ramzan.
This decision allows shops to operate beyond their usual hours, starting from February 19 to March 20. Normally, under the Telangana Shops and Establishment Act 1988, shops must follow government-set opening and closing times.
Specific sections of the act, such as Section 7(1), which regulates shop hours, and sections concerning employee holidays and work hours, are temporarily lifted.
However, certain rules remain. Workers must receive double pay for overtime. If they work on holidays, they should be given a day off later.
Additionally, employees are restricted to a maximum of 13 work hours per day, including Sundays. Female employees are not required to work extra hours and should not work past 8:30 pm.
