The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC) is challenging a recent decision by the High Court regarding the Group 1 recruitment. They have filed an appeal with the High Court Division Bench to overturn the September 9 verdict from a Single Bench, which invalidated results announced on March 10 and the general rankings from March 30 for the Group 1 Mains exams.
The Single Bench provided TGPSC with two choices: re-assess the Mains answer sheets to fill 563 vacancies, or cancel the Mains exams planned for October 21 to 27, 2024, and hold them again. This process must be completed within eight months.
The High Court addressed concerns about irregularities in the Group 1 Mains exams and their results. Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao led the review of 12 petitions seeking the cancellation of the Mains results. After hearing all arguments, the court issued a 222-page judgment, finding that the TGPSC acted unfairly, violating recruitment rules.
As a result, the court declared the Group 1 general rankings invalid. It ordered the TGPSC to re-evaluate answer sheets manually using the moderation method in line with the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Sanjay Singh vs. UPSC case. If re-evaluation is not possible, the court requires that the Group 1 Mains exams be rescheduled within the specified eight-month period.
