Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is taking a major step forward by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its services. This initiative focuses on improving both efficiency and commuter experience while also lowering costs and enhancing employee welfare.
TGSRTC is collaborating with Hansa Equity Partners LLP to roll out AI innovations across all its depots. The firm is delivering technical support, strategic guidance, and specialized training to TGSRTC’s tech team to ensure smooth implementation.
A significant aspect of this AI integration is monitoring employee health. Through the Grand Health Challenge, AI and Machine Learning are used to analyze medical reports for over 40,000 employees. This analysis helps identify health risks and encourages preventive care. A pilot program in six depots proved successful and is now being expanded across the corporation. Executive Director Munishekar noted this will greatly boost crew productivity.
Another AI application is in scheduling, where TGSRTC plans to use automated systems for demand-based bus service scheduling. AI models will assess traffic, festivals, weekly trends, and passenger demand to optimize bus deployment, reducing resource waste.
AI will also enhance operational efficiency by tracking employee performance, streamlining operations, and cutting costs. This will lead to faster, more commuter-friendly services. A detailed presentation on these AI efforts was given to Minister for Transport & BC Welfare, Ponnam Prabhakar at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat. Attendees included Vikas Raj, Special Chief Secretary, and V.C. Sajjanar, Managing Director of TGSRTC, among other officials.
The Minister praised TGSRTC’s innovative approach, noting that AI is transforming industries globally. He encouraged continued collaborative efforts for sustained success. He also recognized Trinadha Babu and Suneel Regulla of Hansa Equity Partners LLP for their contributions since the launch of the Strategic Deployment Plan (SDP) in 2021.
TGSRTC officials highlighted that this AI initiative builds on the success of the SDP, which was started in 2021. The SDP has been crucial in modernizing transport services, enhancing digital capabilities, and bolstering financial stability. Regular monthly reviews help guide both immediate and long-term objectives.
Sajjanar emphasized that adopting AI is a strategic move to ready TGSRTC for future challenges. He stated that AI integration will improve service speed, transparency, and accuracy, while smart scheduling will better meet passenger needs. “TGSRTC is setting a national benchmark by being the first in India’s public transport sector to adopt such technology,” Sajjanar added proudly.
