Telangana, India – Under the influence of cyclone Montha, heavy rains have been lashing the state of Telangana. Chief Minister Shri A Revanth Reddy has put the entire administration on high alert. The CM has initiated a thorough review with all departments to assess the impact of the heavy rains, primarily on paddy harvesting, and has directed officials to take necessary precautions.
Special arrangements have been instructed for paddy and cotton procurement centres to prevent losses due to heavy rains. The officials informed the CM that the influence of Cyclone Montha is expected to be severe in Khammam, Warangal, and Nalgonda districts.
Given the heavy rain situation in Hyderabad, CM Revanth Reddy has ordered local civic authorities to mobilise disaster management teams to assist people in the inundated areas of the city. He has also suggested alternate arrangements for stranded passengers due to the stoppage and diversion of certain trains by the Southern Railway authorities.
The State and National Disaster Response Force (SDRF and NDRF) teams have been directed to conduct rescue operations in the rain-affected districts under the guidance of respective district collectors. The CM has also instructed evacuation of families in low-lying areas to relief camps due to the overflowing of rivulets and canals.
State Irrigation department has been alerted to closely monitor water levels at all projects, reservoirs and other water bodies. The CM has also asked for vigilance on public transportation, directing officials to halt vehicle traffic on flooded low-level bridges and causeways.
The risk of epidemics following the heavy rains has been addressed with the city, municipal, and village sanitation staff instructed to undertake continuous sanitation work. The CM has also highlighted the need for adequate availability of medicines, opening of medical camps and taking precautions to prevent loss of life, property, and livestock in the rain-hit areas.
Revenue, Electricity, Panchayat Raj, R&B, Health, Police, Fire departments and SDRF personnel have been instructed to work in coordination during this crisis. The GHMC, HYDRAA, SDRF and Fire department personnel have been asked to respond promptly to requests from the people in Hyderabad city.
