The Congress party in Hyderabad is gearing up for the Lok Sabha polls. Many top leaders are pushing for the candidacy of their women family members in the hopes of gaining more support. This move seems to be calculated, especially with the launch of schemes like ‘Mahalakshmi’ and ‘Gruha Jyothi’, which offer benefits to households. Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Nalgonda leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and former MLA T Jagga Reddy have all groomed their women family members to run for office. However, they may face challenges from other party members citing norms like the Udaipur declaration.
On February 3, Deputy CM’s wife Mallu Nandini held a massive rally in Hyderabad to show her strength and support. She is aspiring to contest from Khammam, a segment that was already agreed to be offered to the Gandhi family. If none from the Gandhi family contests, Nandini believes she should be given the ticket. She stated that it was the urge from the people of Khammam and her attachment to the region that motivated her decision.
Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy’s wife Lakshmi has also shown interest in politics since 2019. She is a strong contender from Bhongir and even contested for MLC polls in the same year. Lakshmi has been supportive of Rajgopal, even when he resigned from the Congress and joined the BJP.
Former MLA T Jagga Reddy is focusing on securing a position for his daughter Jaya in Medak. Jaya gained attention during the 2018 Assembly elections when she campaigned for her father, who was jailed at the time. She is credited for helping her father win during a difficult period for the party.
Overall, these Congress leaders are strategically promoting their women family members for candidacy in the upcoming polls.
