Topper in Genetics in Hyderabad misses out on gold

Hyderabad is known as the world’s vaccine capital and is home to Genome Valley, a cluster for Life Sciences research and manufacturing. Despite this, Osmania University does not have enough funds to recognize talent in Genetics. The university is preparing for its 83rd convocation, where 57 top rankers will receive gold medals. However, there are no gold medals for M.Sc Genetics students and others due to lack of funds. The university relies on donations to establish these awards. One student, Vishnu Vachana Murapaka, expressed her disappointment in an email to the State Governor and Chancellor of the university, questioning why her department couldn’t find donors for a gold medal. Toppers like her feel left out and are not allowed entry into the convocation hall, where their counterparts receive gold medals. Only PhD and gold medalists are permitted to attend the convocation.
