The Department of Telecom has launched the Sanchar Saathi portal to help people block and track their lost or stolen mobile phones across India. With this portal, users can also check the genuineness of a used device before buying it. The first part of the Sanchar Saathi portal is the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR). If you lose your mobile phone, you can visit this portal, verify your identity, and then the portal will interact with law enforcement agencies and telecom service providers to block your lost mobile phone.
The Sanchar Saathi portal aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision to prioritize user safety. The government is also taking measures to check fraud through calls on WhatsApp. WhatsApp has agreed to deactivate services linked to any mobile phone number engaged in fraudulent activities. All OTT platforms are actively cooperating to deregister users detected as fraud users.
The Know Your Mobile facility under Sanchar Saathi helps users verify the genuineness of second-hand mobile phones before buying them. This facility can prevent users from buying a stolen or fraudulent device.
