A tragic building collapse in Anjaiah Nagar, Madhapur, Hyderabad has claimed the lives of two people and left another injured on Saturday. The incident involved an under-construction seven-storey building that was reportedly built on a mere 50 square yards of land along the roadside. Rescue teams, including personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are currently clearing debris and conducting thorough search operations to ensure no one else remains trapped.

The building, which had been under construction for some time, had reportedly halted work a few days prior to the collapse. When the structure gave way, it fell vertically with all floors from the first to the seventh collapsing one upon another. The topmost floor of the collapsing building landed on an adjacent structure, causing damage and injuring a resident who was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Fire officials involved in the rescue operation confirmed that two bodies have been recovered from the debris. The rescue teams have been working continuously to clear the rubble and search for any potential victims. The operation has involved the use of advanced equipment including canine units and specialized cameras to detect any signs of life beneath the collapsed structure.

Damodhar Singh, Deputy Commandant of NDRF 10 Battalion, provided details about the incident. He stated that the unauthorized building fell under the jurisdiction of Madhapur Police Station and was structurally weak, likely due to its ongoing construction status. He mentioned that laborers were working at the site, suggesting there may have been some lapse or structural deficiency that led to the catastrophic failure.

The incident has raised serious questions about how such a tall structure was permitted to be constructed on such a small plot of land. The 50 square yard plot appears grossly inadequate for supporting a seven-storey building, pointing to possible violations of building codes and safety regulations. Authorities are expected to investigate whether proper permissions were obtained and if construction norms were followed.

Multiple search operations have been conducted using both canine units and camera equipment to ensure comprehensive coverage of the debris field. So far, no additional victims have been detected beyond the two confirmed fatalities and one injured person who was rescued from the neighboring building. The rescue teams continue to remain on site as a precautionary measure.

The collapse occurred in the Gachibowli area, a rapidly developing part of Hyderabad that has seen significant construction activity in recent years. Singh emphasized that the building was structurally weak and that the vertical collapse pattern indicated fundamental issues with the construction. The injured person from the adjacent building has been sent to the hospital, and rescue operations continue with teams maintaining vigilance for any signs of additional victims trapped under the debris.
