The Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Dr V K Singh, announced that efforts are being made to increase the runway capacity at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. Currently, the airport has one runway that can handle 42 movements per hour. To improve this, the airport operator is expanding the airside facilities, including the construction of Rapid Exit Taxiways, Additional Parallel Taxiway, Apron and Taxi-lanes, and a Ground Service Equipment Tunnel. These upgrades aim to increase the runway capacity to over 50 movements per hour.
